Having emotions is part of what it means to be human. All emotions are normal.
Each of us has a unique level of tolerance for our own emotions. Our "zone of tolerance" is developed based on a lifetime of experiences that taught us when certain emotions were "safe" and when they were not. When our emotions get too big, that's when we feel out of control. Relationships suffer. Careers suffer. Health suffers. And certainly, overall well-being suffers.
In Resiliency Skills counseling, we will:
define and map your personal zone of tolerance
identify triggers that bump you out of your zone
identify early warning signs that lead to triggers
create strategies to prevent bumping out
introduce "emergency" skills to help return you to your zone sooner once you have bumped out
develop a simple daily mindfulness practice
You will learn to better manage emotions that feel out of control and return more quickly to a place of functioning.
